Modern Living Room Styling at Marrickville House | Horgans Lifestyle Photoshoot

Modern Living Room Styling at Marrickville House | Horgans Lifestyle Photoshoot

In our latest creative chapter, the Horgans team set out to redefine our approach to lifestyle photography. Leaving behind the familiar symmetry of structured spaces, we found inspiration in the vibrant spirit of Sydney’s Inner West, capturing our new collection within the walls of a breathtaking, architecturally bold home in Marrickville, Sydney.

The result? A series of inspiring visuals that showcase our pieces in a more natural, moody, and thoughtfully layered way.

Immerse yourself in the story behind our latest lifestyle photoshoot, where every detail was thoughtfully curated to celebrate the spirit of Sydney’s Inner West, creating a seamless dialogue between the home’s striking architecture and the timeless beauty of Horgans furniture and homewares.

This wasn't just a change of scenery—it was a purposeful evolution. We aimed to capture our products in a real home environment, styled with intent and emotion, with an aesthetic that would resonate with property stylists, interior designers, and our Trade clients. Our living room setup in this Marrickville House brought that vision to life with elegance and charm.

The Space: A Home with Character

Marrickville House was the ideal canvas for exploring modern living room ideas.

With its three spacious bedrooms, open-plan living area, kitchen, dining room, two bathrooms, and a dreamy outdoor space complete with a pool, it offered both scale and intimacy. The living room, in particular, provided exactly what we were looking for—arched windows that flooded the space with soft natural light, sheer curtains that added texture and movement, and polished concrete floors that grounded the design with a modern edge.

The home's architectural features—curved openings, high ceilings, and a minimalist colour palette—set the tone for the shoot. They allowed our furniture and homewares to speak for themselves while complementing the overall mood we hoped to create: warm, elegant, and lived-in.

Styling the Living Room: A Balancing Act

Styling the living room required a balance between form and function, softness and strength, comfort and creativity. Below are the items used and the collection for you to recreate the look using Horgans pieces.

In curating the space, we focused on creating a dialogue between sculptural forms and tactile materials. Organic shapes softened the architectural lines of the home, while rich textures – from plush upholstery to hand-finished timber – added depth and a sense of grounded luxury.

Through a considered layering of colours and textures, the room became more than just a space — it became a story. A place where design meets daily life, where bold, contemporary pieces from Horgans harmoniously intertwine with the architectural spirit of this amazing home.

The Textured and Harmonious Retreat

This room showcases the Soho Modular Sofa, paired seamlessly with two Almos Swivel Chairs in Sage—their fluid silhouettes echo the sofa’s curves and reflect the soft architectural lines of the home. These sculptural pieces bring a harmonious rhythm to the space, thoughtfully designed to make an impact in both residential and commercial settings.

Introducing contrast and grounding the layout, the Indu Travertine Side Table adds organic texture and tonal depth. At the centre, the Malmo Marble Coffee Tables—in both large and small—demonstrate how considered form and materiality can effortlessly elevate the mood of a room.

The Kezu Floor Lamp anchors a corner with understated elegance, styled alongside our signature ceramic vases and sculptural trays to complete the scene. The space embraces a warm, neutral palette with layered textures and soft light, creating a design-led setting that feels both refined and inviting.

Timeless Forms, Soft Relaxation

In this room, the Oslo Modular Sofa in Frosted Ivory takes centre stage, its curved silhouette echoing the home’s architectural softness. Paired with the Thea Occasional Chair in Berry, the combination strikes a bold yet balanced contrast—playful, sculptural, and refined.

The Argo Marble Coffee Table grounds the space with its striking black top and curved marble legs, adding both texture and tonal depth. Nearby, the Hugo Bone Inlay Sideboard in Grey introduces subtle pattern and elegance, styled with the sculptural Mateo Table Lamp and the charming Rudi Greyhound Sculpture in Brass.

Framed by soft natural light and complemented by the Pari Framed Wall Art, the space blends neutral tones, organic forms, and standout accents—proof that simplicity can still make a powerful statement.

Bringing the Vision to Life

Executing a lifestyle shoot always comes with its own set of challenges—and rewards.

Our team was on-site for three full days, meticulously planning, setting up, and styling each room. From unloading the furniture to adjusting props with precision, every member of the crew played a part in achieving the final result.

We were incredibly fortunate to have the homeowner's full support. Warm, helpful, and welcoming, they not only opened their home to us but also ensured we had everything we needed to work efficiently and respectfully.

Our talented stylist, Sophie, once again proved why she's one of the best in the business. With her sharp eye and intuitive approach, she was able to draw out the personality of each piece and create scenes that feel fresh, thoughtful, and inspiring. Our photographer and videographer captured every moment with care, translating the ambience of the house into visuals that feel both elevated and accessible.

"Styling at Marrickville House was such a rewarding experience. The natural light, the
soft architectural details, and the warmth of the space allowed the pieces to truly shine. My goal was to create a mood that felt both elevated and effortless—where every element spoke to the elegance of lived-in design. It was a joy to bring that vision to life with such a passionate team."

Sophie Newton, Stylist and Product Manager at Horgans

Light, Mood, and Authenticity

We couldn't have asked for better light.

Throughout the day, the sunlight moved like a brushstroke across the living room, painting it in different moods — from the delicate softness of a golden morning to the rich, immersive glow of late afternoon.

The light, both natural and thoughtfully layered with pendant and floor lamps, played a central role in highlighting the craftsmanship and materiality of our furniture and homewares.

That light helped us communicate something that's at the core of every Horgans collection: authenticity. Each product we offer is thoughtfully curated for both beauty and quality. This shoot allowed us to show that not just through close-ups or catalogue shots, but through real spaces that reflect how our pieces are meant to be lived in and loved.
